Our adventure starts in Sarajevo, where we leave the city behind in the morning and head toward one of the wildest and most beautiful areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina — Sutjeska National Park. This is the oldest and largest national park in Bosnia and Herzegovina, located at the meeting point of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro.
Day 1: Via Ferrata Kuk
After arriving in the park, we leave our vehicle in the Papin Do area and hike to the starting point of Via Ferrata Kuk. This is one of the newest via ferrata in Bosnia and Herzegovina and a great introduction to this type of activity. Before the climb, your guide explains all safety procedures and equipment. Along the route, there are several natural resting points where we take breaks, enjoy snacks, warm tea or coffee, and take in panoramic views of surrounding mountains and dramatic rock faces. After the via ferrata, we drive through the beautiful Sutjeska River canyon to our accommodation. Before dinner, we also visit the Partisan Memorial of Sutjeska, a powerful monument dedicated to those who lost their lives during the Battle of Sutjeska in World War II. The visit includes historical context and storytelling from your guide. The evening is reserved for rest and a well-deserved dinner surrounded by amazing nature.
*Note: No prior Via ferrata experience is required, what matters most is good fitness, balance, and no strong fear of heights, and participants should feel comfortable being active for several hours.
Day 2: Maglić Summit and Trnovačko Lake
Our main goal for today is to hike to the Maglić peak itself (2,386 m) — the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, depending on guest wishes, fitness level, and weather conditions, we also offer a more moderate alternative. First stop will be a short walk on the edge of Perućica, offering beautiful views of one of the last remaining primeval forests in Europe. Nearby, we also see the impressive Skakavac waterfall, located right in the middle of the forest. From here, we continue to starting point of our challenging hike of around 9 hours of hiking in total, aimed at physically prepared guests who want to reach the highest point in the country. However, there is a possibility to take alternative, moderate hike of around 5 hours of hiking in total, perfect for those who prefer a gentler pace while still experiencing spectacular mountain scenery. Both options end at Trnovačko Glacier Lake, a stunning heart-shaped lake set at 1,500 meters, surrounded by an amphitheater of rocky peaks. This lake is located in Montenegro, which means we will cross an international border during the hike, and all guests must bring a valid passport.
*Important note: For this day, we offer two hiking options, but please be advised that only ONE option will be chosen based on the group’s preferences, fitness level, and weather conditions. The hike is done together as one group — there is no splitting into separate groups. This allows everyone to share the experience, enjoy the day at the same pace, and support each other along the way. Once the option is selected, the entire group follows the same route, ensuring a relaxed, and enjoyable hiking experience for everyone.
Comfortable hiking shoes and layered clothing suitable for outdoor activities. We recommend bringing something warmer in case of cooler weather, a reusable water bottle, sunglasses, sun cream, swimming gear and a towel, as well as light rain gear.
During May and June, mosquito repellent is recommended just in case.
